Initial Consultation: A 15 minute, free phone consultation where the individual provides a brief overview of the presenting problem, to ensure telehealth services is a proper fit. Telehealth therapy may not be ethically appropriate for all individuals; for example, those struggling with active self-harm or suicide ideations, active in their addiction, or in a domestic violent relationship.
Sessions: The first few sessions will focus on developing rapport and allowing a space for the individual to share their story. Often times the presenting problem is only a symptom of a deeper root issue. Symptom = What is happening, Root Cause = Why is it happening
Symptoms are rarely random; we will explore when and where the symptom shows up and identify patterns. Symptoms most likely served a role at some point in the individual’s life prior to becoming problematic later in life. We will assess the meaning and function of the symptom. Gain a better understanding of the origins of the symptom which will ultimately allow us to identify the root cause that created it - AND THAT is where the true therapy work begins!

The goal. Friends are there to help support and comfort you. Friends may not be equipped to help you explore deep rooted issues, emotional discomfort, negative thought patterns or behavioral challenges. It can be incredibly helpful to have a trained professional that can help you identify the cognitive distortion in your thought patterns. A therapist will help you restructure the negative thought, work through the emotional distress, and properly address the problematic behavior.
The focus. The focus is completely on you. Partnering with a therapist to assist you in your healing/growth journey by identifying distorted thought patterns, maladaptive behaviors, and teach you coping skills to better manage mental health symptoms alleviated unwanted stress.
Objectivity. Friends may offer advice/guidance based on their own experiences or personal biases. Therapists are not only neutral third parties but are third parties trained to remove personal biases when working with a client.
Confidentiality. Friends are not equipped to take on your struggles or burdens and may seek someone in their life to “unload” what you have shared with them. Therapy provides a safe, confidential space where you can rest assure that what you share stays in session (except in cases of safety concerns).
Science. Talk therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), works alongside the brain’s natural ability to change (neuroplasticity) by stimulating growth of new neural pathways by developing new ways of thinking/ behaving. “Neurons that fire together, wire together”.

You do NOT have to be a Christian to work with me! For clients that desire to bring their faith into session, whether it be a positive support or a source of contention they desire to work through; clients have an opportunity to work with a therapist that can assist them in their spiritual exploration allowing space for the Holy Spirit to move. As a Christian therapist the strength is in knowing the character of God and scripture that supports it, WITHOUT IMPEDING MY THEOLOGY onto a client but supporting the client in their healing journey.
